Total Bummer!

I got some disappointing news this weekend... I have heard that LDS Family Services is raising its adoption rates substantially. Instead of 10% of your annual income, the fee will be 20% (as of Jan 1st). I believe the minimum has changed too, now at $10,000 instead of $4000. I have not yet been able to confirm these changes online. I am wondering if anyone has any more info.

Also, because the Morning After Pill is now available over the counter, the number of babies available for adoption has dramatically decreased.

For a person in my postition, this type of news is discouraging.

I've heard these rumors too, but then I got the impression it wasn't true, maybe I better call our caseworker. I'll let you know.

Well that now rules LDSFS out for us too. Please continue to update your blog on any info you receive. What a bummer!

My social worker told me they might raise the prices next year! He didn't say by how much, he was telling everyone and anyone that could to get their paperwork in this year! We can't apply until February again!! I don't see how we can afford another adoption if it's really going to be 20%!! I am sad! Stupid infertility!!

Our social worker hasn't confirmed this, but she did tell us the rates were going to double so also said they are going to be working with other adoption agencies to get more access to children. It's awful news. If this really is the case, then we can't afford to adopt a child, honestly who can with that rate? And then we are back at square one. I hope you don't get too discouraged, but I don't blame you for feeling that way! Infertility is devastating in too many ways. :(

If that is true then Grrrrrrr- On a positive note, Heavenly Father WILL help those that need to come up with extra funds. They'll be blessed. Also, with the world economy spiraling downwards, I'm wondering if in the near future international adoption will become easier. That would be cool!

Also love your last post as well. Such a cute story!!

What? This is crazy talk! Although it makes a little sense...considering including all expenses, travel, etc...we paid close to $11,000 (which was HUGE for us BUT)...the church picked up an over $20,000 hospital bill just for the birth...not including anything else...so I think it would make sense they could not continue to do that...but I've heard WY is one of the most expensive places to give birth in the US, and it was a completely normal birth, no comps...so who knows...maybe other places couples paid more than their hospital bills but...we felt lucky after we saw the costs involved. This is really not good news, the church has always been reasonable @ adoption...it just evens the playing field for non lds adoption agencies, that is pretty competitive with non lds adoption agencies...hmmm...

Hi! You don't know me...I randomly found your blog while I was searching for a Joseph F Smith quote. Anyways, we share many things in common. I skimmed through your blog and share the same heartache with you in being infertile. It is such a painful road, but I know the Lord is in control and can bless our lives in ways we never thought possible. I wish I could give you a hug and tell you to hang on!! We have a son we adopted 5 years ago and last month we adopted our daughter. I NEVER thought it would take 10 years to get my family to this point, but the Lord knew what he was doing. I wish you the best of luck in your journey. As for the increase at LDSFS, I asked our social worker today and he said he can't deny or confirm the rumors. Sounds like it probably IS going to happen...that totally sucks. Anyways, bye for now. If you ever want to chat I'm here :)

My husband and I are adopting a baby girl through LDSFS due in February, so we were understandably concerned after reading this blog post. So, I spoke with our caseworker face to face today and she let us know that the church is definitely not, I repeat NOT, going to be raising their LDSFS fees. They were considering a SMALL increase, but decided against it. Anyhow, we were relieved and thought you all would be too. It might be a good idea to let your readers know so that any of them who were considering adoption can move forward with that plan. Good luck!
